“For this reason, the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and messengers; they will kill some of them and persecute others.’” Luke 11:49, Good News Translation
Each week on my personal website, I try to share the message God puts on my heart. The message proclaimed is always an expression of my understanding of God and His Word the Bible, and is always rooted in love, never hatred; while I can make this statement with complete and utter honesty knowing the statement is true, perception of the reader is not within my control, nor is the readers “perception” my responsibility.
So many emotions swirl within my head today. As a Christian, and the very reason I established a website, my goal is to encourage anyone who chooses to read my writing to look to Jesus, who gave His life for an imperfect person like me. Sharing my humanity with its’ failures, I pray, will let others know that God is good, kind, filled with grace, and forgiving. But never will I capitulate when sharing the Word of God by misleading anyone into believing a lie about God’s character as He has made clear throughout His Holy Word.
Today, the name Charlie Kirk will probably stir some form of emotion within you, as a reader of this writing. While I did not know Charlie personally, I also did not personally know the prophets Jeremiah, Isaiah, Daniel, and the list goes on and on of former messengers of God. What I do know, however, is that God still uses people like the prophets of old—like Charlie, to spread the Truth of God’s Word, even when the message is unpopular to hear. Charlie was a modern-day prophet; not a perfect human being since no one, except Jesus ever lived a perfect life according to God’s Word. Everything I ever heard come from Charlie’s mouth indicated he loved God and frankly, he loved the hearer and cared more about hurting their soul than hurting their feelings. Charlie spoke the truth of God’s Word over the lies being propagated by cultural ideologies. His love and courage cost him his life.
My emotions concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk are deeply rooted in my faith in Jesus Christ and at the risk of sounding redundant, as a Christian, although the two should be synonymous. World governments may try to separate the political from the spiritual, but Christians understand God, the Creator is sovereign over it all. Charlie’s message seemingly crisscrossed over both political and spiritual topics, yet they were one in the same to those of us who believe in our God of the Bible. According to his message, Charlie believed all human life is precious, even the lives of those with whom he disagreed politically and spiritually. You will never find a video where Charlie wished anyone “dead” because they did not agree with his basic Christian beliefs; I know this to be a fact because it is a foundational, biblical principle upon which every Bible believing Christian bases his or her life creed. All human life matters—both the born and the unborn and is precious in the sight of God according to His Word, and therefore, should reasonably follow likewise in the minds of those of us who profess to love God—like Charlie.
Jesus told His disciples, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you” (John 15:18, NKJV). Charlie Kirk did not hate people, he loved them. Ironically and sadly, both the “hatred” and love of biblical truth killed Charlie. Would that all followers of Jesus Christ be willing to live and die for such a high calling as this. LORD, please let it be said of me. Amen.
