Word of Truth

“Anything goes!! You’re right. I’m right. One truth does not fit all.” If there is one universal belief system in our country today and perhaps in many other countries around the world, this is it. At face value it may sound like a loving way to think and live until one persons “truth” clashes into another. Or more personally speaking, until what you believe clashes with what I believe!

Biblical precepts are really not so hard to understand except when we allow our human tendency of subjectivism to get in the way. We also call this philosophy relativism. What I mean by this is that we let our individual rationale trump God’s Word. The “culture of the day” along with our cooperation try to dictate what is right and what is wrong. One problem with this mindset is that the dictates of any current culture change. What is thought to be true and acceptable today may not be so tomorrow. Also, every world culture has its’ own idea of what is acceptable behavior which often does not agree with another. This fact has been the basis for most wars throughout history.

The Word of God, Biblical truth, never changes! After over two thousand years, The Bible is as relevant today as when it was written. It is a secure foundation upon which you and I can safely build our lives. It will not shift with the current tide in the culture. Clearly it is true; not every person is a Christian, but even our freedom to choose what we will believe comes from God not from a world government. When any particular belief system becomes mandated by law, religious tyranny is certain and the very love of God can only be interpreted as legalistic.

As you read this writing, you may be thinking, this person sounds as though they are saying two different things. Freedom to choose but only one truth! In fact, it is exactly what I am saying because I believe in The One Who has granted us the freedom to choose life over death through His Son Jesus Christ but I also believe God seeks our heart and not just our words.

After Joshua had led the Israelites into the promise land, he said this: “Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” [Joshua 24:14-15, emphasis mine]

What or Who do you choose?

LORD, You give me the awful freedom to love You or not love You. Help me to always choose the former. In Jesus’ Name. AMEN

To The One Who is The Author of choice…Jesus!
