From the researchers on ancestry studies to the twenty-three pairs of chromosomes in our bodies, we seek to know more about who we are and “what exactly makes me, me!” We have all seen the advertisements on television on how we are now literally able to send off a sample of our saliva to be tested, in order to obtain a complete listing of our personal DNA. I suppose this can be both informative and fun, depending on what the information actually reveals but you and I are more than physical beings. As a matter of fact, I would suggest that you and I embody spiritual DNA that is more powerful and trumps all of the physical DNA we possess!
After He rose from the grave and returned to His Father in heaven, Jesus commanded of His disciples what has become known as The Great Commission. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” [Matthew 28:19] Through the physical act of baptism, we are reenacting the example of Jesus, which was the foreshadowing of His death and resurrection. In our own baptism we are expressing that, in the same as Jesus rose from the grave, we, “in death” will also rise into eternal life with God. However, while this is The Good News of Christ, there is even more good news!
“…the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” [Genesis 2:7] When God breathed life into man, God’s very own DNA entered man’s being as well. You and I are the offspring of Adam, therefore, you and I also have God’s DNA within us! This is truly not complicated science. While researchers are learning more and more about genetics, God has already made available to us everything we need to know about who we are in Christ Jesus. Of those proclaiming to be representatives of God, Jesus said, “By their fruit you will recognize them.” [Matthew 7:16] What does this fruit look like? “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” [Galatians 5:22-23]
Father, You have born Your very own identity within me. As if this were not enough, then, You gave me Your very own Son to save me. THEN, You breathed into me Your Spirit to guide me. Father, Son and Holy Spirit…Three and me. Thank You! AMEN
To The One Who offers completion…Jesus!
